What made you want to work in music?
Music is pretty much all I think about, so I've always tried to make it my main focus in life. I've played in a few bands over the years, and I've always had a huge amount of respect for the industry professionals I met while we were touring and releasing our music, especially in the independent sector. Coming from a background in Arts and Culture PR, joining Name felt like the perfect opportunity to merge those two worlds together.
What’s your favourite album of all time?
Steve McQueen by Prefab Sprout is my all-time favourite album by my all-time favourite band. I've always respected how, despite the crazy structures, complex chords, and weird song topics, Prefab Sprout were always just trying to write great pop hits. It gives the record a sort of unpretentiousness that I’ve always found really endearing. Other than that, I have to mention Liz Phair’s Exile in Guyville for some of the most honest songwriting of the '90s, Judee Sill by Judee Sill for some of the most heartbreaking songs of all time, and Sufjan Stevens' Illinois, an album that feels both massive in scale and delicately intimate.
What’s one piece of tech you couldn’t live without?
My Elektron Digitakt – It's a drum machine and sampler, but it also acts as the brain that links my synth collection together. I also have to say my laptop – I’ve got all my to-do lists and systems set up on it to help navigate my dyslexia, but equally importantly, it holds all of my Ableton files.
