22^nd  March 2012 California: - Pete Tong and the IMS partners are to bring 40 leaders from the global electronic music business together with 40 leaders from technology and brands in a high level, invite-only symposium.

The full hospitality event, comprising networking drinks followed by a dinner and party, will take in place Palm Springs on Thursday April 12^th – a day before America’s famous Coachella festival commences next door.

The symposium builds on this year’s IMS theme – Connections Count – and is aimed at enabling today’s electronic music leaders to meet and share ideas with those who can help drive their future businesses.

Representatives from YouTube, Twitter, Smirnoff, Burberry, Electronic Arts, William Morris, CAA will all be participating.

Celebrating their fifth year in operation, team IMS are very proud to be able to unveil the full details for this year’s IMS Grand Finale Festival – an event that’s now considered the opening party for the whole season.

Set in the heart of Ibiza Town and looking over the Balearic Sea, the very special UNESCO world heritage site in Dalt Vila is a place of true beauty, made even more special when you consider that this is the only time of the year the area is used for a contemporary music event.

And what an event it promises to be… Having previously showcased acts and DJ’s such as 2manydjs, Mark Ronson, Buraka Som Sistema and Hercules & Love Affair – as well as the annual host and IMS co-founder Pete Tong – this year’s line-up once again delivers on every level.

With the aim to offer something for everyone, as well as bringing the highest caliber of artists to appeal to true dance music lovers, IMS: 2012 combines the perfect balance of heavyweight legendary names with some of the most exciting acts of today. In the “legends” corner we have two of the very best, with Pete Tong inviting his very good friend Carl Cox to the party – a man who’s done everything possible in his field. From becoming a headline act in the late 80’s for the most exciting rave’s at the time and being the first ‘star’ DJ of Ibiza from his early shows in San Antonio, Carl Cox has maintained his status for the past 25 years, delivering the most exhilarating techno and house music wherever he goes. An icon. A legend. And his Tuesdays at Space event is now one of the strongest on the island. He is 50 years old in 2012, and deserves the headline billing for such a special event. IMS will also host its second IMS LEGENDS DINNER at Lio on Wednesday May 23, following in the footsteps of Pete Tong from last year. The industry dinner will include speeches from close friends and a special one to one with Pete Tong.

They also both hold mythical status on the island, with Loco Dice the former Circoloco hotshot turned Cocoon hero and Seth Troxler the new king of DC-10, alongside his good friend and sometime DJ-partner Jamie Jones. With both Dice and Seth being voted in the top 10 of Resident Advisor’s annual DJ pole for the past three years running (Seth was voted #2 and Loco Dice #4 in 2011), you are guaranteed to hear the newest and finest in cutting edge club music.

Following the success of last year’s event, Cathy and David Guetta return to host a special free party at the Dalt Vila site on the Thursday night of what’s set to be an amazing week of events. In conjunction with IMS: 2012, the party is the pre-event for the world-famous F*** Me I’m Famous at Pacha – which is where the main event will take place later the same night.

David Guetta DJing at Dalt Vila is a truly special occasion – this will be the only time fans get to dance to their idol in the open air with nothing but the stars above them this summer in Ibiza! But, not stopping there, our hosts will be bringing along two friends – and superstar DJ’s in their own right – with the legendary Paul Oakenfold and hugely talented Diplo also both performing on the night.

With Oakey having famously been one of the key links between Ibiza and London that sparked the birth of Acid House in the UK in the late 80’s, the man is rightly loved on the White Isle. Having gone on to produce a huge number of hits, sell-out numerous stadium DJ tours and so much more, this will be one of the highlights of the week.

With two megastars already on the bill you would be forgiven for wondering how another artist could fit in, but in Philadelphia-based DJ/producer Diplo, the Guetta’s may have pulled out their trump card. Owner of the tastemaker Mad Decent label, one-half of production duo Major Lazer (alongside Switch) and producer to the stars (including Snoop Dogg, Beyoncé and M.I.A), Diplo’s just about as hot as they come. Yes that’s correct, despite the IMS team now focusing on the final preparations for this year’s IMS: 2011 – coming live and direct from the Ibiza Gran Hotel – we are very excited to announce that as a last-minute addition, the legendary film director David Lynch will be beamed in live from his recording studio just off Mulholland Drive. The interview will take place at 8pm (local European time), which is 11am in Los Angeles and will focus on Lynch’s music production career which in 2011 has seen him release the amazing ‘Good Day Today’ / ‘I Know’ single – remixed by the cream of the electronic world including Underworld, Skream, Sasha, Boys Noize and Diskjokke.

The interview will be lead by the three people who played pivotal roles in introducing David Lynch to the Ibiza world: Jason Bentley, who first played Lynch’s new experimental music live on air on KCRW in America and tricked the world into thinking it was by Underworld, and who at last year’s IMS passed the music on to Ben Turner (IMS partner). Ben in turn played it to his Sunday Best Recordings partner and BBC Radio 1 DJ Rob da Bank, and the pair quickly signed the single and are now planning the release of his full-length album for the label later this year.

The interview will see Lynch and his engineer “Big” Dean Hurley interviewed from the studio as they show us exactly how they made the music in Lynch’s studio.

David Lynch stated today: “I’m excited to talk to those attending the International Music Summit in Ibiza. 12 months ago Jason Bentley from KCRW gave a track I made with my engineer Big Dean Hurley to Ben Turner and Rob da Bank of Sunday Best Recordings, and we return this year to chat about the full-length album we have just completed. I look forward to chatting with them and everyone else in attendance on May 26th live from my own studio in Los Angeles. We’ll talk about the music and how it came to be and exist. We had such a blast making it and I am honored to be a part of the International Music Summit.”

IMS partner Ben Turner states: “This is a true honour. It was at the IMS 12 months ago that I heard ‘Good Day Today’ for the first time, sat in the hills of Santa Agnes in Ibiza, trying to recover from the summit! I played this record and I was astonished it was produced by my favourite film director of all-time. Lynch didn’t make it for the dancefloors – he just made the music he felt inspired to make. One year on, it’s an incredible moment to have him beamed into the Ibiza delegation at the IMS so everybody can hear his musical story, his vision, and his future plans in music…”

David Lynch is one of the most revered and unique film directors on the planet and his work is mysterious and ALWAYS musical. Lynch has collaborated with the likes of Danger Mouse, Sparklehorse, Duran Duran and Interpol, but in 2011 it was his electronic single ‘Good Day Today’ which turned heads, subsequently named NME single of the week.

As with all the daytime conference events, this will be held exclusively live for the IMS delegates, although the IMS will be releasing sections of the interview online. IMS has been called “the TED of electronic music conferences”, and is a three-day gathering of leading professionals in the electronic music space from all over the world.

25 January 2011 – We’re delighted to announce the first speakers for this year’s International Music Summit (IMS: 2011). The scene is set for what promises to be the most exciting, informative and inspirational IMS yet.

KEY CONFIRMED GUESTS FOR THE DAYTIME IMS: 2011 SCHEDULE:

IMS is honoured to have Daniel Miller from Mute Records as their Keynote Interview in 2011. The man who signed Depeche Mode, Moby and Richie Hawtin (amongst many others) has been invited to the IMS every year so far and now that he’s become and independent again, it feels like the right time for his story. In another major coup for IMS, it will be Richie Hawtin who interviews Miller.

Richie will also feature at IMS discussing his plans to make dance music greener, in conjunction with Alison Tickell from Julie’s Bicycle plus leading electronic music agents.

In addition, in the year that dance music has exploded onto daytime radio all over the world, the BBC’s ‘Head of Music’ George Ergatoudis will face the industry about his decisions, which arguably make him the most influential man in worldwide radio for electronic music labels. As well as speaking, Ergatoudis has agreed to a “speed pitching session” where delegates will have four minutes to sell their music to him.

IMS has also invited one of the worlds most powerful and most highly respected music agents to speak. David Levy was possibly the first ever DJ agent, and now with William Morris Endeavour, the company have a huge market share within the genre worldwide. Levy is uncompromising and has a vision and an overview for the global scene like few others. Elsewhere, the inspirational character that is Emmanuel du Buretel, the head of Because Music in France, will talk about his business interests that span way beyond simply releasing music. Emmanuel is one of the most respected label bosses in the world, and from France has a special approach to music and artist relations.

Other key speakers are Amy Thomson from CMO Management who has taken the Swedish House Mafia from Sweden to the top of the charts worldwide as both manager and agent. Also Jho Oakley who has taken drum n bass producers Chase & Status and Pendulum from underground clubs to writing records for the likes of Rihanna and beyond. Also included are speakers from Nokia and National Geographic, who have a new approach to music.

Moving into it’s fourth year the Ibiza International Music Summit (IMS) returns to the White Isle’s sunny shores on the 25th-27th May 2011 for its largest conference to date. Establishing itself as an indispensable meeting of industry minds, 2010 brought together over 450 delegates from 30 different countries and 50 invited speakers from around the world to network, do business and help plot the future business of electronic music. It has been dubbed “the TED of electronic music”.

Leading the charge on structuring a predominantly regionalised electronic scene, IMS recently published its first Annual Electronic Music Report, bringing analysis, statistics and insight to the previously undocumented world of electronic music.

Meanwhile an ambitious “DJ Index” working group is working towards an accurate and authoritative new weekly chart. Using sales, airplay and gig attendance stats to rate popularity, the chart has a desired launch date of May 2011.

Over the years IMS has seen some of the biggest names in electronic music from electronica and technology pioneer Richie Hawtin to the decorated producer and DJ Mark Ronson through to the most successful DJ of all-time David Guetta. It has also attracted speakers from Google, Nokia, T-Mobile, Disney, Coca-Cola and leading music supervisors such as Alexandra Patsavas, Jason Alexander and KCRW’s Jason Bentley.

Radio 1′s Pete Tong summed up the feeling at the end of this year’s summit stating “IMS continues to grow – both as an inspiring and enlightening electronic music business gathering where our delegates can get up close and personal with many of world’s leaders in the field, and as the host to a unique collection of live shows that are open to the public”

“Electronic Music: A Business Report” by Kevin Watson for IMS

26^th July 2010:- The Ibiza International Music Summit (IMS) today announced the publication of its first annual business report on the electronic music market.

The report was commissioned by the IMS and presented exclusively to delegates by Kevin Watson at the opening of IMS 2010 in May. It contains up-to-date statistics, analysis and insight on the key elements of the global electronic music industry, providing individuals and organisations from all areas of electronic music with a global end-to-end view of the industry.

It is the first time a report such as this has been made available on the electronic music industry. The publication supports the IMS in its wider mission to supply those working in the industry with a backbone of reliable business resources: an initiative which has included the establishment of an ambitious working group to develop an accurate and authoritative new DJ-related popularity index (planned for launch in 2010).

The IMS aims to be the most business-focussed and intelligent event in the electronic music calendar and has been called ‘the TED of electronic conferences’ in relation to the new ideas event which has just taken place in Oxford, England.

The report’s author, Kevin Watson, has drawn on a range of sources including official sales figures from the BPI and its international equivalents, data from social networking sites and chart companies, census data and trade and consumer press.

In the current climate of dance music taking over America, IMS compares Google search popularity, with DJs such as David Guetta and Tiësto not far behind major R’n’B and pop acts like Lady Gaga and the Black Eyed Peas, and ahead of the Kings of Leon. Both DJs have more Facebook followers than the Black Eyed Peas.

Ben Turner, co-founder of IMS said, “The IMS mission statement from year one was ‘Back To Business’ and its amazing to see what has happened to our industry in the last 12 months. It is clear with all the conversations people in the electronic world are having with brands, media companies, mainstream labels and investors, that there is a hunger to be associated with this genre. Yet when it comes to facts and figures, our industry tends to undersell itself.

This report is the start of an investment from the IMS side in providing some real data and whilst it falls short of being in anyway comprehensive, it is a starting point, the first step in finally explaining to the wider industry quite how popular this scene really is.”

Mike Pickering – Hacienda, Deconstruction – takes to the stage for opening keynote.  He’s just relaunched deconstruction.   Talks about his days with Factory, New Order, Joy Division.  In the early / mid 80s, he put a 12″ that got noticed by Larry Levan, so played at the Paradise Garage, Danceteria.  This helped create the blueprint for the Hacienda.  Mike DJ’d and booked the acts there for 11.5 years.  Factory never wanted to start a dance label, Tony saying at the time “darling, dance music will never happen”  Mike created another record, getting plays on Kiss and other pirate radio. but they couldn’t get it signed.  So they started Deconstruction.  Cute story about M People’s Heather Small singing on Ride on Time.  Also had hits by Lionrock, Felix and, er Kylie.

Mike things it’s all going to happen again. One the one hand, plenty of raves in East london, Coachella – Deadmau5, 2manyDJs, Hawtin, Etienne D’Crecy.  Chairman of Sony Ged Doherty approached Mike saying ‘we have to have a dance label’.  He’s given Mike carte blanche.  Says it’s all about fair deals that work for the artist.  They’ve done deal with 360 (managers of Deadmau5, Calvin Harris).  Says it was a nightmare getting a major label to sell music to Beatportal.  And yet Sony spend 00 of £000s of pounds on remixes..  He’s now getting the old catalogue re-released.  SIgned Axwell from Swedish House Mafia, also Retrograde – dirty italo house.  Says Merchandising is becoming an important new income stream – eg.  Deadmau5 iPod speakers.

Announces that CALVIN HARRIS has become Mike’s AnR man at Deconstruction!!!

Mike’s also taken a high level merchandiser aboard.  Has had meetings with Lacoste, Urban Outfitters…
