COOKING VINYL Sign THE VIEW To Global Deal

March 22^nd 2012, London:- Cooking Vinyl, The burgeoning UK indie label that boasts a roster including The Enemy and The Prodigy, today confirmed another addition to their stable – The View.

The Scottish Platinum selling four-piece known for their distinctive pop-punk sound have signed to Cooking Vinyl for a global services deal on their fourth album. Produced by Mike Crossey (Arctic Monkeys, Razorlight, The Enemy, Tribes), the album is currently being recorded at the Motor Museum Studio in Liverpool, a hallowed hall in which creative sparks have flown for Grandmaster Flash, Oasis and Mark Ronson.

The as-yet-unnamed album is slated for release in July to be supported with a summer festival schedule broadening into a full UK and European tour in September and October this year.

Influenced by likes of Oasis and The Clash, the band began as a covers band in their native Dundee in 2005. Within a year Kyle Falconer (lead vox), Kieren Webster (bass), Pete Reilly (lead guitar) and Steven Morrison (drums) formed the band and were picked up by newly created Sony Music subsidiary 1965 Records, already well into the writing of their breakout album. Hats off to the Buskers released in 2007 to critical acclaim, reached platinum sales and was nominated for a Mercury Music Prize.

The band stayed with1965 Records for another two albums Which Bitch (2009) and Bread and Circuses (2011) before being snatched up by Cooking Vinyl.

Cooking Vinyl’s Counting Crows and The Cult to Headline SXSW 2012

22 February-Austin,TX:- Cooking Vinyl artists come out swinging with two recent heavyweight signings taking prime slots at SXSW 2012 in Austin, Texas.

Counting Crows and The Cult will perform on Friday 16^th and Saturday 17^th March respectively, in headline slots at the Auditorium Shores Stage on Lady Bird Lake in downtown Austin.

Californian multi-platinum selling act Counting Crows, signed to Cooking Vinyl for Europe and the UK, and are soon to release studio album number six- the covers collections ‘Underwater Sunshine’, due in April.

Legends of rock The Cult are shaping up to unleash the album ‘Choice of Weapon’ – their 9^th – on their ravenous fans 21st May, released globally by Cooking Vinyl. It comes after sessions with long-time collaborator and producer Bob Rock (Metallica, Bush) and co-producer Chris Goss (Queens of the Stone Age, U.N.K.L.E., Masters of Reality).

Counting Crows, Reverend & The Makers and The Proclaimers Sign to Cooking Vinyl

26 January, London:- Cooking Vinyl have signed, Reverend & the Makers, The Proclaimers and Counting Crows. Reverend & The Makers and The Proclaimers are signed to full label services deals, Counting Crows have signed for a royalty based license deal and all of the acts plan to release albums in the Spring of 2012.

Reverend & The Makers join Cooking Vinyl’s roster for their third album. This features Youth (The Verve, Killing Joke, Primal Scream, The Charlatans) and James Dring & Jason Cox (Gorillaz) on production duties and which is set for release in Spring 2012. The Sheffield based collective, fronted by John McClure (aka The Reverend) have released two albums so far – The State Of Things, which reached the UK’s top five in 2007and 2009’s A French Kiss In The Chaos. The band has done extensive touring with their hometown buddies Arctic Monkeys as well as Oasis, Kasabian and The Ting Tings. They have also just been confirmed as main support on Noel Gallagher’s Feb/March UK arena tour.

Californian multi-platinum selling rockers Counting Crows have signed to Cooking Vinyl with a royalties based licensing deal for Europe and the UK. With five albums under their belts, Counting Crows will continue to be managed by Collective Music Group partner Jordan Berliant and will be releasing a new album in April.

Scottish twins, Charlie and Craig Reid, make up The Proclaimers, a platinum selling group who have signed a worldwide services deal (excluding North America) with Cooking Vinyl for their ninth album. Possibly best known for their smash hit I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles), The Proclaimers are currently working with Steve Evens on their new album slated for release April 2012. This is Evens’ third production collaboration with The Proclaimers and his previous collaborations include Robert Plant, Siouxsie Sioux and Templecloud.

Craig and Charlie Reid recently said of their new deal “We are very excited to be joining with such a progressive and successful label and we look forward to the promotion and touring of the new album immensely.”

The signings follow in the footsteps of Underworld and Groove Armada who pioneered similar services deals with the Cooking Vinyl. These recent additions mark what is becoming a strong 2012 for the label who have added The Cranberries, Marilyn Manson, The Cult and Roll Deep to the roster in the past twelve months.

The Enemy Proudly Sign to Cooking Vinyl for the World

Lead singer Tom Clarke outspoken about signing

Cooking Vinyl has signed Coventry-based three-piece The Enemy, ahead of the release of the band’s third album in the Spring.

Previously signed to Warners, the band first came to attention with their Platinum-selling debut album We’ll Live and Die In These Towns in 2007, and the Top three Gold-selling follow-up Music For The People from 2009. They join Cooking Vinyl on a royalty deal for the world release of their third album, scheduled for May 2012.

The band, lead by Tom Clarke, begin work on their third album this month at Kore studios in Acton with The Bronx’s Joby J. Ford in the producer’s chair. A hugely popular live act, they supported Oasis on their final UK dates and will be announcing live dates to coincide with the album’s release.

The Enemy are managed by Nick Ember and David Bianchi for Various Artists Management, whose roster includes Reverend & The Makers, The Libertines, Carl Barat, Charli Xcx and Killing Joke.

Lead singer/ guitarist Tom Clarke was outspoken about the signing; “My experience of record labels is as follows: the big ones have got big lawyers who want to pull your pants down and fuck you for fun while telling you they’re doing you a favour. And they are all about one thing – money.

“The smaller ones are about two things – people and music. Success is possible because, when a small team of enthusiastic people care, they are capable of creating something that no big label or their lawyers can buy, passion. You can’t take 25% of net passion.

“Cooking Vinyl have got bags of passion, and look where it’s got them; The Prodigy put out some of their finest work on Cooking Vinyl, The Subways tugging at the Radio One A list, that’s a guitar band on the A list in 2011. That is where passion gets you, and right now it’s gotten us into the studio, excited, enthused and passionate about being a band again. Something which our previous label miserably failed to achieve.

Phil Hopwood to Up The Rock at Cooking Vinyl

Phil Hopwood is to join Cooking Vinyl to strengthen and expand their rock & metal roster, ahead of some key signings and releases in 2012.

Phil joins as Repertoire & Product Manager on January 3 2012. With a brief that extends from an enviable release schedule – including 2012 releases from rock legends The Cult and Marilyn Manson – to signing tomorrow’s hottest new upstarts, Phil’s appointment confirms Cooking Vinyl’s ambitions to push at the barriers at the front of the A&R moshpit.

Phil’s appointment follows two years at EMI Music as Artist Merchandise Manager, a decade as a freelance label manager/ consultant and nine years at Vital / [PIAS] – over which time he has developed an enviable contact network. During his tenure at Vital, Phil saw the company evolve from APT to the merger with Revolver to form Vital, where he worked alongside Vital MD Mike Chadwick (MD of Cooking Vinyl sister company Essential Music & Marketing). He has known Cooking Vinyl founder Martin Goldschmidt for an equally long time.

As well as signing bands, Phil will be drawing on his recent merchandising role at EMI to develop a rights management approach at the label, enabling artists to fully exploit all available income streams.

Beyond consolidating Cooking Vinyl’s rock & metal credentials, Hopwood will also assist Essential Music & Marketing, both in signing labels to their roster and with up and coming talent, such as rock bruisers Dragonforce. He will also be signposting writers to Cooking Vinyl Publishing.

Cranberries to release new album ‘Roses’ through Cooking Vinyl

13^thFebruary 2012, The Cranberries will return with Roses, their first studio album in over a decade, on the 13^th February, 2012 via Cooking Vinyl for the world and Cooking Vinyl via Downtown Records in the U.S. on February 14^th. The Cranberries, Dolores O’Riordan, Noel Hogan, Mike Hogan, and Fergal Lawler, began their career in their native Limerick, Ireland in 1989 and sold more than thirty million albums worldwide in the nineteen nineties. Roses (COOKCD552) was produced by the band’s longtime friend and collaborator Stephen Street (The Smiths, Blur) and harkens back to the freshness and originality of the band’s first two albums, 1993’s Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We? and the 1994 follow up, No Need To Argue. Prior to Roses, the band’s most recent album was Wake Up And Smell The Coffee, which was released in 2001.

In 2003, The Cranberries announced their break up, but they briefly reunited for an acoustic performance when Dolores O’Riordan received an honoree degree at Trinity College in 2009. “The minute we started playing, it felt like we’d never stopped,” Dolores recalls. “There’s something about playing with The Cranberries. It’s like putting on a perfect pair of shoes. It just fits.” In 2010, they commenced a reunion tour of 107 concerts that took the band all over Europe as well as to North and South America and Asia, culminating in the band’s first ever shows in China in 2011.

Dolores stated, “Having recorded two albums with various different musicians during our hiatus, I could clearly see that Noel and Mike have a unique way of creating chords and Ferg keeps it together in a subtle way. We had a blast in the studio, Stephen was in his zone and it came together rather quickly. There is a sense of rejuvenation in the group, a freshness.” Guitarist Noel Hogan added, “I always had the attitude that there would be another album. Over the last six years, Dolores and I were sending each other ideas on and off.” During the reunion tour, the band began working on new music during sound-checks. “The icing on the cake was to work with Stephen Street again who helped us re-discover our sound.”

The songs on Roses come from a band with a renewed hunger and in every corner you’ll find the extraordinary sound of Dolores O’Riordan’s voice, the pivotal instrument which transformed the band from a group of young Irish hopefuls at the edge of the 80s into an MTV sensation and worldwide super group within just a few short years.

The Cranberries debut album Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We? featured the massive singles “Linger” and “Dreams” and hit #1 in Britain. The follow-up, No Need To Argue cemented the group’s popularity via such popular tracks as “Zombie,” “Ridiculous Thoughts,” and “Ode To My Family,” ultimately being certified 7x Platinum in the U.S. and 5x Platinum in Europe (hitting #1 in Germany, Austria, and Australia, and #2 in the U.K.). The Cranberries had four top 20 Billboard albums, 8 hit singles, and worldwide sales of over 30 million records.

Cooking Vinyl Rolls Deep With Chart-Busting New Signing

10^th August 2011, London:- UK based label Cooking Vinyl are adding the innovative and chart topping Roll Deep crew to their roster. The nine-member group’s unique post-grime, electro-rap formula exemplifies the melting pot of genres at the forefront of the UK’s influential dance sector.

Still riding high from last year’s smash album Winner Stays On, containing number one hit singles ‘Good Times’ and ‘Green Light’, Roll Deep are packing in a busy touring schedule this summer before new material comes out this Autumn. This will be the first fruit from their as yet untitled fifth studio album, which is being slated for release in Q2 of 2012.

In addition to a new record deal, the Roll Deep crew has welcomed a new member into the fold this year, Tania Foster the lead female vocalist has now been inducted as a permanent addition to the group and will be featured on all of the new album’s tracks. She will be joined by the core members J2K, Brazen, Breeze, Manga, Scratchy, FlowDan and Karnage as well as Target who also moonlights as the famed 1Xtra DJ. 9^th March 2011, London:- Cooking Vinyl Records and sister company Essential Music & Marketing are gearing up for the annual schlep to South by Southwest, the global music industry’s largest annual conference and music festival.

From Cooking Vinyl’s great and varied roster of artists, Ron Sexsmith, American Music Club and Mexican Institue of Sound will all be performing as part of the six-day desert orgy of sound.

Distributed, marketed and sold to retailers by Essential Music & Marketing, Brooke Fraser and Duran Duran also take their place among the luminaries and up-and-comings who will be showcasing their latest work at the conference.

Signed to Essential’s client labels and performing at the festival are the Meat Puppets (Megaforce) with Roky Erickson at Austin Music Hall, Delicate Steve, Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt (Luaka Bop), The Stepkids, Strong Arm Steady, Peanut Butter Wolf (Stones Throw), Dinosaur Bones, The Golden Dogs (Dine Alone). The festival will also feature label showcases by New West Records, Fat Possum and The End Records, all part of the Essential stable.

International icons Duran Duran appear at Stubb’s in downtown Austin on 16^th March at 12:30am, playing music from their 13^th studio album All You Need Is Now, produced by Mark Ronson and set for released on 21^st March.

Over at SXSW Film, the documentary Love Shines is set to steal the spotlight with a showcase on 15^th March at 6:15pm (Alamo Ritz 2) and on 16^th March at 7pm (Vimeo Theater) under the 24 Beats Per Second category.

With an extraordinary playlist and a stellar cast featuring Elvis Costello, Steve Earle, Feist, Kiefer Sutherland and Daniel Lanois, Love Shines is a journey to the heart and soul of what songwriting is about.

Sexsmith’s album Long Player Late Bloomer, which features in the documentary and entered the top 50 of the album chart this week, was released on 28^th February on Cooking Vinyl and Sexsmith himself will be playing midnight shows on 17^th March at the Creekside at Hilton Garden Inn and on 18^th March at the St. David’s Episcopal Church.

Over at the conference itself, Sexsmith will be speaking on the prestigious Songwriters Explain Everything panel, Cooking Vinyl Director Rob Collins will be appearing on the The Indie View: Emerging Digital Music Models. Chaired by IODA chairman Kevin Arnold, it will discuss new cloud and subscription-based services and what they mean for indie labels. Keith Marnoch, Label Manager at Essential will also be attending the conference.

HFA to Provide Cooking Vinyl with Complete Licensing and Royalty Solutions
